Services

BED LINEN: Please let us know if you need extra blankets, pillows or towels for your room.

CHECK-IN: Check-in time is 3:00, but if you arrive earlier and your room has yet to be made up, you are welcome to leave your luggage, stay and have a cup of tea, or go out and explore Masset.

CHECKOUT: We request our guests vacate the rooms by 11:00 a.m. in order to facilitate our new arrivals.

FIRE EXIT: A ladder, which attaches to the upstairs window, is available in Cloud 9 (under the queen-sized bed). All rooms are equipped with smoke detectors.

FISHING CHARTERS: Discounts on fishing charters available if booked through Copper Beech House. Please note that fishing charter companies are in no way affiliated, legally, with Copper Beech House. (Our lawyer told us to put that in writing.)

INTERNET: You can log on anywhere in the house with complimentary wireless access.

LAUNDRY: It has become increasingly unlikely that we will have time or space to do extra laundry and would suggest guests call the charming Eagle Laundry and ask to speak to Sarah. Wash/Dry/Fold $10.00 250-626-7159. (Ask your host for a map!)

NIGHT ENTRY: The front door is locked at 11:00. If you are going out, please remember to take your key with you. The key to your room will also unlock the outside door. (Please remember to lock the door after you have come home, also.)

SMOKING: No smoking anywhere in the house, please. If you break this rule a sadly necessary cleaning fee of Cdn$250 will be extorted from you (please don’t ask me how). But we love people of smoke: it’s okay to smoke outside on the decks (we can provide you with an ashtray and you can smoke, under cover, in the outside kitchen) or on the beach, or by the leaky propane tanks on the docks (just kidding.)

TELEPHONE: Most calls within Canada are free. If you need to call Kazakhstan, please ask first.

TOILETRIES: In the interest of dispensing with plastic bottles (we have no recycling facilities for these on Haida Gwaii, alas) your bathroom comes equipped with a Shampoo, Conditioner and Body Wash dispenser filled with Sea Wench Naturals – a limited and exclusive line of wild and organically grown plants from one of the most stunning gardens in Clayoquot Sound off Tofino, B.C. (A travel sampler-pack of five different Sea Wench products is available at a cost of $30.)

UMBRELLAS and WELLIES: We have umbrellas, and a lot of different sizes of gum rubber boots and will be happy to lend you a pair.

P.S. BOOKS SIGNED BY YOUR HOST: Shameless promotion: yes, my books are for sale, you need only ask. Most are $20, but there are bargains (Gullband: $5; Great Musgrave: $10.00). Board books (the kind you can chew if you find yourself going to bed hungry, God forbid) are $9.95. And of course, I will sign it/them for you.
Most recent is A Taste of Haida Gwaii: Food Gathering and Feasting at the Edge of the World. $40.00 A steal (but please don’t. I owe my publisher for copies I have ordered and now am obliged to sell.)
I have a few copies of my husband Stephen Reid’s best-selling autobiographical novel, Jackrabbit Parole left for sale. And his most recent book of essays from prison: A Crowbar in the Buddhist Garden. Stephen was my life partner, who died in Masset on June 12, 2018.

Thank you — Susan Musgrave, Owner/Manager
